575 watts for a moving head’s high light output is all very well, but what if you could get the same results from a less power-thirsty arrangement? This Vizi Spot 5R by American DJ produces a similar output as a 565-watt moving head, with a 160-watt light source! Sure enough, it is equipped with the Philips Platinum 5R lamp, which produces 8,000 lumen from scratch. At five metres away, this is still 2947 lumen! The 8,000K colour temperature enriches the colours of this fixture, and especially the red is prettier than that of most moving heads.
The independent wheels in this Vizi Spot 5R take care of two things: gobos and colours. This machine produces seven dichroic colours, plus white. The gobo wheel has room for eight rotating gobos and these can be replaced by other gobos or your own gobos (with your own logo, for instance). The wheel holds four metal and four glass gobos with a visible diameter of 8 mm (14mm overall). The 3-facet prism produces the essential effects, including strobe, gobo shake and pulse – which is a striking feature whereby the device flashes out different colours at different speeds. A gobo scroll function is the cherry on top.
Control wise, the American DJ Vizi Spot 5R offers stand-alone functions, sound-controlled, master/slave or DMX-512. All can be easily set with the 4-button menu display on the rear. The master/slave function can be used in both the sound-controlled and the stand-alone mode, making several moving heads follow the lead of the master moving head. Opt for DMX-512 controls, and you opt for a 13-channel command over the moving head’s movement as well as light show programs, giving you optimal ruling over this moving head’s many functions.
