Built in Japan, the Boss DS-1W Waza Distortion takes all of the character and legendary tone of the little orange box that first dropped in 1978 and backs it up with a fully updated, full analogue circuit that supports an even broader range and expanded versatility. Like every other Waza Craft offering, the Boss DS-1W has been assembled using the very best materials in the business, so wrapped up inside that iconic orange box lies a premium buffer that guarantees optimal signal transfer when the pedal is bypassed, and as a thoughtful bonus, Boss include a 9V battery so guitarists can get stuck in straight out of the box, and enjoy some classic ‘sag’ as the battery runs dry.
The Boss DS-1W Waza: Two-Mode Distortion
Besides the standard issue Tone, Level and Distortion control pots, the Boss DS-1W supplies a two-way mini-switch to flip this stompbox between two different modes. In Standard Mode, you get the much-loved, full and defined old-school sound of the original DS-1, which is supported by an innovative two-step amplification circuit. And in Custom Mode, you’re treated to extra-thick tone framed by a solid mid-range and an improved sonic balance that punches aggressively through the mix – and this is on top of six decibels of extra output, meaning that the DS-1W can also serve as a stonking boost pedal.
