Joe Satriani had been rocking a DiMarzio FRED bridge pickup for years when he asked DiMarzio for a beefier pickup with more output for his latest Ibanez signature guitar. That’s why the new DiMarzio DP216F bears the name ‘Mo Joe’ – it literally offers more Joe. Specially made for electric guitars equipped with a Floyd Rose bridge, this upgraded version of the DiMarzio FRED sounds so defined and dynamic, you can actually shape different sounds through your playing. Following the release of his signature tube amp, Satriani has been playing with chunkier strings more often. To ensure clear string-to-string sound, the distance between the specific parts of the coils that shape the middle frequencies has been slightly increased, without increasing the DC resistance. The result is higher output and clearer sound when compared to Joe’s former go-to bridge humbucker, the DiMarzio FRED.
