General
The sound of the Telecaster is one of the main contributors to Fender’s success. The visually and audibly distinctive neck pickup of the Telecaster provides the famous twang. This pickup is equipped with alnico III magnets that feature an enamel-coated coil, just like on the Telecaster pickups of the ’50s.
The famous twang
Twang as a term finds its origin in singing terminology. Twang characteristics are described in numerous ways including the quacking sound of the human voice when the mouth is smiling. Where a Stratocaster says ‘twoing’, a Telecaster says ‘twang’.
