Kevin Shields isn’t just the frontman of My Bloody Valentine but a fully certified effect pedal freak. Four years in the making, Shields and Fender finally present their extensive Shields Blender. The core of this far-reaching chunk of hardware is based on Shields’s own seventies-vintage Fender Blender, so you’re getting the same, original circuit plus a mass of possible sounds and more user-friendly widgets liberally piled on top. The result is a fully analogue fuzz tank that supplies two channels and three octaves that can be mixed every which way.
The Fender Shields Blender: An Experimentalist in a Box
The Fender Shields Blender boasts double the number of control pots as the original. Select your channel via the Octave pot, where the first channel blends the fuzz circuit with your normal guitar sound and the second channel lays on an extra-thick sub-octave. The Trigger and Sag pots, meanwhile, control the dynamic response so a gigantic range of possible fuzz sounds can be dialled in with ease, and you can quickly swing from the subtle and hairy to the extreme and spiky.
