Guild take all the sixties and seventies style of the Newark St. Collection Surfliner and load it out with two thick and juicy in-house developed HB-2 humbuckers. The offset body shaping is just as satisfying as ever, and while it bears a throwback vibe, it’s been rounded off and contoured in all the right place to support modern playability, especially since it’s made from poplar which, combined with the maple neck, completes a lightweight instrument with a balanced core sound that’s rounded off by a lightly biting attack.

The pickup set of this revamped Surfliner can do much more than you might think. Warm, Alnico-flavoured sound is a given, but when you couple these humbuckers with the two Guild Rocket pickup switches mounted on the left horn and the push/pull volume pot that doubles as a coil-split switch, these pups can be isolated, blended, or split down the middle to unleash single-coil style output and double the fun. Meanwhile, the combo of a solid Tune-O-Matic bridge and string-through-body construction backs everything up with the perfect level of resonance and sustain.
