The Canvas Clock: Plenty of Connection Options

What’s especially great about this sync pedal is that it can be set up in various different ways. The four jack ports can be configured to serve different purposes. For example, the tempo output can be used to simultaneously send analogue and MIDI signals to Walrus Audio pedals like the Arp-87 Delay or Monument Tremolo without any manual tempo indication, while the CV output supports analogue synth and drum machine control via CV signals. What’s more, the connectors can be set to serve as switch inputs, allowing you to use external footswitches to control various clock functions, and you get a dedicated exp pedal input so you can use an expression pedal to send MIDI CC commands and do things like dynamically vary the mix of a reverb or the depth of a tremolo effect. The built-in footswitches are fully customisable, meaning you can use them to switch between songs and set lists; start and stop a metronome; dial in the global tap tempo without the need to bend over at all; and more.

In-Depth Control Over Your Tempo and Timing

If all of the above isn’t enough for you, then you’ll be glad to learn that the Canvas Clock offers even more in-depth features. The 128 adjustable song slots can each be assigned their own name, time signature, BPM, MIDI macros and metronome setting and, by grouping your songs into set lists, you can fully prepare for your live shows and instantly recall the right settings per song. Add that to the 128 adjustable MIDI macros (each of which includes a maximum of 15 commands) and you’re assured of full control over how your gear behaves during specific songs (e.g. automatic enabling and disabling of specific effect pedals depending on the song). The sync port up top can be set to serve as either an input or an output, which is great for synchronising external equipment such as Eurorack modules or something like a Roland Volca synth. Last but not least, you can connect the Canvas Clock to your PC via the USB-C to gain access to the Canvas Clock Editor web-app for quick setting tweaks, set list management, and future firmware updates.
